When should you start coming in for induction acupuncture?
Acupuncture is safe throughout your whole pregnancy to give Mumma some extra support, but for induction acupuncture, we recommend coming in for weekly treatments from around 35 weeks to really begin to prep Mum and Bub for labour.
How does acupuncture help the mum and bub for labour?
The main thing we focus on for induction Acupuncture treatments is really supporting and calming down the nervous system. We all know that pregnancy and bringing a new baby into the world, can often be an overwhelming and sometimes stressful time. With Acupuncture we will help to reduce cortisol levels in the blood, regulate neurohormonal pathways, and also focus on increasing endorphins (happy hormones) to give Mum as much emotional support as possible. By supporting you in this way, we are creating a safe and positive birthing environment.
One of the other major ways we aim to support you is by keeping your muscles and tendons relaxed and ready for the labour and birthing process.
What can I expect during a treatment?
Throughout an induction treatment, we will go over your health history, your pregnancy and your aim for labour and birth. Our aim is to create the most relaxed space for you and baby and to do this, we use Acupuncture, massage, calming essential oils and birthing meditations to allow your body, both physically and mentally to completely calm.
To give your body even more support, we may also use Moxibustion and Electro Acupuncture to really enhance the effects of the acupuncture and give your body the extra little push that it may need.
What else can I do at home? Epsom salt foot baths- packed with magnesium, Epsom salts are great to help support muscles and calm the nervous system so Epsom salt foot baths can be great for pregnant women
Clary Sage oil- has been shown to help support contractions of the uterus, Clary Sage oil is great to add into some massage oil to prepare and encourage your body for labour
Acupressure massage- during an Induction Acupuncture session, you will be shown some acupuncture points that we encourage you to self massage at home and during labour to give you some extra support
